Celebrating 40 Years of Ambulance Service

This year, we celebrate 40 years the Wishek Ambulance Service has safely transported patients and rescued lives.  Here are some milestones that have brought this service to where it is today.

1972

  • Nickisch Ambulance Service announces the termination of its services
  • A 1% mill levy passes and issues the purchase and maintenance of the Nickisch Ambulance Service
  • Hospital employees construct a heated and lighted ambulance garage that measured 32 x 26 feet

1973

  • The Wishek Ambulance Service graduates its first EMT class
  • The new ambulance, purchased by the City of Wishek and operated by the Wishek Hospital, arrives
  • The Wishek ambulance starts making emergency runs

1974

  • The Wishek Ambulance Service obtains official licensure

1993

  • Wishek begins its service as the regional training center for emergency medical services provided in the area
