  Dr. Elizabeth Sundberg, MD

Location: Wishek

Dr. Sundberg got her education in Oregon, graduating from Portland State University in 1978, Oregon Health Sciences University in 1986 with residency and fellowship training at OHSU 1986-1992. She initially worked for 10 years in Spokane Washington at the Rockwood Clinic as a kidney and ICU doctor. This continued when she moved to Bismarck in 2002 so her daughter could play hockey. After her children (2 sons, 1 daughter) graduated from high school she has worked at several rural health center/critical access hospitals having been in Grafton ND for 3 years before joining the Wishek Hospital and Clinic. Dr. Sundberg states "I wanted to make big city medicine more easily available to the people living in rural areas"

 

MargaretWilliams,FNP-BC

Family Nurse Practitioner

Margaret (Kosiak) Williams FNP-BC is a native of Wishek and recently moved back to our community to join our staff in May 2016.  She will be working in Kulm four days a week, Gackle one day a week and help out as needed in Wishek.  Margaret holds a Bachelors in Science degree from the University of Mary in Bismarck and a Masters in Science degree with emphasis in Family Practice from Simmons College in Boston MA. Margaret commented on what this new position means to her  “the opportunity to return home and provide healthcare to those in need has been a true blessing to me, following in my dad’s (Dr. Don Kosiak)  footsteps will be a challenge but one that will hopefully bring great reward for myself, my family and the community.”

 

Polly Benson, PA-C, FNP

Physician Assistant / Family Nurse Practitioner

Polly Benson, PA/NP, went to undergraduate school for nursing at UND, Grand Forks.  She moved to Wishek as a Nurse Practitioner in the 1980’s and soon, after obtained her certification as a Physician Assistant.  She now works as a certified PA and NP full-time at the Wishek Hospital Clinic. Starting with Napoleon, Benson has worked to ensure that every clinic in the WHC system has become certified as a Rural Health Clinic. “It’s good for people to know that we are no different than other communities – it takes a lot of work to keep the doors open…I think we can pat ourselves on the back because collectively, we have provided the best care we possibly could,” says Benson.

 

Courtney Short, FNP

Family Nurse Practitioner

Location: Napoleon and Wishek

Courtney Feil, FNP-C attended the University of North Dakota for both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in nursing, graduating with the latter in May of 2016 with a family practice focus.  She grew up in rural North Dakota and knew she wanted to live and practice in a small community. Courtney moved to Wishek with her fiancé, Josh and dog, Rook. She is currently the full-time provider at the Napoleon Clinic. “I believe that growing up in rural North Dakota gives you a huge appreciation for accessibility to healthcare and what an asset it is to the community. I look forward to being a part of the Wishek Hospital and Clinics team to be able to provide professional and compassionate healthcare to individuals in the area.”


Siaka Sanneh, MSN-FNP

Family Nurse Practitioner

Siaka Sanneh completed his education at Clackson College in Omaha NE. Siaka is orginally from Giamba. He is primarly a provider at the Wishek Clinic.

 

 

Angela Volk, PA-C

Family Nurse Practitioner

Location: Kulm and Gackle

Angela Parker, PA-C received an associates degree and major in Respiratory Therapy from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in 1996, and completed her Physician Assistant degree in 2004 at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. She is the provider at the Kulm and Gackle clinics

 

 

Kay Rau, PA-C

Physician Assistant

Kay Rau, PA, obtained her nursing degree at Dickinson State University.  After a stint as the nurse administrator at the WHC, Rau went back to school at UND to earn her physician assistant certification. After being in rural healthcare since the start of her career, Rau commented that the biggest reward has been building relationships with her patients.  “You not only see them as your patients, but you are friends with them outside of work, you are involved in the same activities, and your kids play with their kids.  That personal connection makes us more sensitive to patients’ personal needs, not just physical,” says Rau.
